800 5th graders to graduate from D.A.R.E. program

LINCOLN COUNTY - Lincoln County 5th Grade students from eight county elementary schools will graduate Thursday at the James W. Warren Citizens Center in Lincolnton.

Students from Rock Springs, Childers, Kiser, Long Shoals Christian Academy, Love Memorial, Lincoln Charter East, Lincoln Charter West and Lincoln and Catawba Christian Academy will attend ceremonies that will start at 9:30 a.m.  North Brook Elementary held its graduation on November 29th.

LINCOLN COUNTY - The Last Man's Club World War II Veterans of Lincoln County will hold a special Pearl Harbor Day observance noon Tuesday at the flag pole on the east lawn of the Lincoln County Courthouse.

The forecast calls for a chance of rain, sleet or light snow though midnight on Saturday.

Horse wanders onto tarp-covered swimming pool, falls in and is rescued

LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Five agencies were called to help rescue a horse that was stranded in a swimming pool in Lincoln County Friday afternoon.

Firefighters with the South Fork Volunteer Fire Department, Lincolnton Fire Department and East Lincoln Fire Department were called to rescue the female horse around 12:30 p.m.  Lincoln County Animal Control and Lincoln County EMS also responded to the scene.

Jon Dellinger was working at Laboratory Mill when he heard a commotion and discovered a horse was in a swimming pool at a house along the 2800 block of Laboratory Road.

"The horse was swimming under the tarp when we first arrived," Phillip Connor, a firefighter with the South Fork Volunteer Fire Department.  "We had to take the tarp off of the pool to get to the horse."

Church breakfast and Christmas sale on Saturday

LINCOLNTON - The Spirit Life Church of God is holding a breakfast and Christmas sale this weekend and all are welcome to come by.

Serving time for breakfast starts at 8 a.m. and the sale will last until noon on Saturday.
