The Sheriff’s Office has moved to a new online order and payment system to purchase gun permits.
The new system provides the following features to those applying for gun permits:
- Applicants can now pay for gun permits online using all major credit cards.
- If the applicants wants to pay by cash, check or money order, they can present these forms of payment in person at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, 700 John Howell Memorial Drive, Lincolnton or the Charlie District Office, 1889 N. Highway 16, Denver between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- A computer has been set up in the lobby of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at John Howell Memorial Drive, Lincolnton to collect online applications to allow those who wish to pay by cash or money order to do so in person.
- Applicants will be notified of the receipt of the online application, the need for additional documentation and the issuance or denial of the permit via automated emails.
- All orders are given a unique order number to help with reference and tracking.
- Applicants can log into the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office website and check the status of their order using their order number, email address and password (created by the applicant during the application process). The online system will auto-generate permits for those applicants that are approved.
- Once the application is approved, the applicant must present his/her North Carolina driver’s license or identification with matching name and address to the application in person at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, 700 John Howell Memorial Drive, Lincolnton or the Charlie District office at 1889 N Highway 16 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Officials hope the new system will streamline the permit process and reduce the public’s need to place follow-up phone calls and travel to the sheriff’s office.
