South Fork Volunteer Fire Department receives $60,000 NC State grant
The South Fork Volunteer Fire Department of Lincoln County announced Wednesday that it has been awarded a $60,000 grant from the North Carolina Department of Insurance: Office of State Fire Marshal.
The grant is for the purchase of firefighter protective equipment, and is a 50% - 50% match, with the state paying $30,000 and SFVFD paying $30,000.
Funding from this grant will allow the purchase of personal protective equipment for firefighters. This includes the pants, coat, boots, hood, helmet, gloves, and face masks firefighters wear when dealing with fire emergencies.
Currently several of South Fork’s firefighters are using gear that is 10 to 15 years old, does not fit properly, or is in poor condition, according to the department's announcement.
