New housing funds for Lincoln County residents

LINCOLN COUNTY (Community Link) - Low-income homeowners may be eligible for rehabilitation on their house through a new grant that benefits Lincoln County residents.

Community Link, a Charlotte-based non-profit organization, has been awarded a $160,000 Single-Family Rehabilitation Grant by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency. Funds will be used to rehabilitate homes owned and occupied by very low and low-income individuals and families.

The program targets the elderly, disabled or families with a child under the age of 6 whose health is threatened by the presence of hazardous lead-based paints.

Community meeting on proposed driving range Thursday night

LINCOLNTON - A public hearing will be held Thursday night to discuss the proposed golf driving range off NC 16.

According to the Lincoln County website, Steven Pearman is requesting the rezoning of 10.2 acres from B-N (Neighborhood Business) to CZ B-G (Conditional Zoning General Business) to permit the development of the driving range.

The property in question is located about 400 feet west of N.C. 16 Business at the end of West Pointe Drive, about 600 feet south of Cherry Point Lane.

The community involvement meeting will be held at the East Lincoln Community Center, located at 8160 Optimist Club Road to provide information about the proposal.  Officials will also receive comments prior to a public hearing.

Lawyer, county spar over Burton Creek

LINCOLN COUNTY (Courtney Price, The Denver Weekly) - Representatives from Fifth Third Bank came to the Board of County Commissioners meeting on May 2 ready to fight when commissioners held a public hearing to discuss revoking the permit for the Burton Creek development.

The bank’s attorney, Don Neilson, said commissioners don’t have legal grounds to revoke the permit yet.

“There are several reasons, legal and practical, for continuing the permit,” Neilson told the board.
